Understanding yourself should not be a paid service

41 psychological assessments, free to anyone, with results explained the way a good clinician would explain them rather than the way a number does.

The problem we are actually solving

Most people who take a psychological test online get a number and a label. Nineteen out of twenty-seven. Moderately severe. Then nothing. No sense of what produced that score, what it does and does not mean, or what a reasonable next step looks like.

The interpretation is the valuable part, and it is the part that gets withheld. A clinician reading the same responses would not stop at the total. They would look at which items you endorsed, whether your difficulty is concentrated or diffuse, whether the physical symptoms or the thinking-and-mood symptoms are carrying more weight, because those differences change what actually helps.

That analysis is not difficult to produce. It is simply not offered to people who are not paying. So we built it and gave it away.

Who this is for

Anyone. But it was built with specific people in mind: someone who cannot afford £200 for an assessment, someone on a waiting list that runs to next year, someone not ready to sit in front of a therapist but ready to answer nine honest questions alone at night, and someone simply curious about how they are put together.

Researchers and clinicians are welcome too. The scoring logic, subscale structures and sources are published on every result, precisely so they can be checked.

How we try to be trustworthy

  • Every claim is sourced. Each assessment page and each section of each result lists the research it rests on. If we cannot cite it, we do not say it.
  • We never claim to diagnose. A questionnaire can indicate that something is worth looking at. It cannot tell you what that something is, and anyone saying otherwise is selling you something.
  • We publish what we cannot publish. Where an instrument is commercially licensed, we say so by name and point you to a free alternative rather than quietly reproducing it. The full register is public.
  • We hold nothing. Your answers are scored in your browser and never transmitted. There is no database, no account, and nothing to leak.
  • We show the limits. Every result includes what the instrument cannot tell you, because that is usually more important than what it can.

What this is not

It is not therapy, not a diagnosis, and not a substitute for a person. Grief, burnout, thyroid problems, medication side effects, chronic pain and simple exhaustion can all produce responses that look identical on a screening questionnaire. Telling those apart requires a human being with training, and no amount of clever scoring changes that.

If something here suggests it is worth talking to someone, please treat that as the useful output, not the score.

How it is funded

By donations, and by nothing else. No advertising, no premium tier, no data sales. That is a deliberate constraint rather than a temporary state. Advertising would legally disqualify us from hosting around a dozen of the instruments here. The reasoning is set out in full.

Getting it wrong

Some of this will be wrong. A crisis number will go out of date, an explanation will confuse more than it clarifies, a score will not match what a clinician would produce.Tell us and it will be fixed. Corrections are published, not quietly patched.

Who wrote this page

Psychometrics Today Team, Editorial team. Last reviewed 30 May 2026.

The assessments on this site were developed and validated by the researchers named in each page’s sources. Psychometrics Today administers them and explains what results mean, in plain language, with every factual claim traced to the study it comes from.

Reviewed for accuracy against the primary research it cites. Not reviewed by a clinician, and not a substitute for assessment by one.
